If you are making a decision that ultimately affects the rest of your life, you need to have all of the information so that you can make an informed choice. Knowing for sure that you are pregnant is the first place to start.

Pregnancy Tests
The Pregnancy Care Center offers a free, self-administered, clinical pregnancy test. This test is designed to determine the presence of the pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), in urine. The manufacturer states that this test is 97% to 99% accurate 7 - 10 days after conception. However, as with all diagnostic tests, a definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based upon the results of this test alone.

The result of your self-adminstered pregnancy test is not a diagnosis of pregnancy. The patient who performs the self-administered pregnancy test will receive, upon request, a "self-administered Pregnancy Test" statement that will verify a postitive pregnancy test.

One way to know for sure you are pregnant is to have an ultrasound. The Pregnancy Care Center offers a free, limited obstetrical ultrasound for those who qualify.

Ultrasound
Our Director and Nurse Manager will determine who will qualify according to appropriate medical criteria for ultrasounds.

The ultrasound can assist in several important areas:

• Determine if there is a uterine pregnancy or a pregnancy outside of the womb, which can be life threatening.
• Determine how far along the patient is in the pregnancy. (Determine gestational age of the fetus.)
• Look for signs of viability. (A viable pregnancy is one that is capable of developing under normal conditions.)

Pregnancy Care Center (PCC) will provide a confirmation of pregnancy only after the following procedures:

• The patient has had an ultrasound at PCC’s medical clinic.
• The ultrasound showed a viable pregnancy.
• PCC's qualified medical professional has read the ultrasound and signed the ultrasound exam report.
